My favorite Tchaikovsky piece is the finale from his 2nd symphony. The Romeo and Juliet Overture isn't far behind, but that's also 'cause I got to play that one in high-school orchestra.
My favorite from Tchaikovsky's, I think, is the Russian Dance Trepak. Short, but I always want to laugh when I hear it. Reminds me of Zee during Christmas.
You might like it, they made full use of Tchaikovsky's music. Also the animation correctly emulated the Gothic (not Goth) styles of the setting (14th Century, if I recall), ie: delicate features such as slender wrists and frail looking hands and very exaggerated vertical styles used throughout. Also the three fairies play off of one another quite well :D

DeleteMy favorite Tchaikovsky works: (1)The Nutcracker Suite (especially the Arabian Dance), (2)The Sleeping Beauty Ballet, (3)The Romeo & Juliet Overture.
ReplyDeleteUntil recently, I had no idea that his music was the soundtrack for the Disney Sleeping Beauty film, which is also one of my all-time favorites!
I never really watched Sleeping Beauty, now that I think of it. Just the beginning.
