You want real chills, you have to listen to 12-tone... I'm a fan of the Dorian mode myself (D to D with no sharps or flats). I like to write minor stuff as much as I like to write major stuff, but my years of doing church music have made me very fond of the picardy-third (a song that's all mostly minor until the very last chord, which is major; Bach's little g-minor fugue is a good example).
