INSIGNIA Teaser - Behind The Scenes

Oh hey, I forgot that I had some materials on YouTube that I haven't shared yet, so here they are.
I've uploaded the step-by-step Animation Process and the Animatics to the animated trailer I made for my college final project.
But first, here's another look of the finished version.

INSIGNIA Teaser Trailer
It's fun to watch this side-by-side with the Animatics.

Animatics
The images I used in the Animatics here were the final draft taken from the storyboard. As you can see there are quite a number changes that I made, from backgrounds to camera angles. There are some really cool shots, but they didn't made the cut because some of them interrupted the flow of the trailer. Regardless, I think they were some epic shots.

Animation Process
Some of you may already be familiar with how I do illustrations. This is more or less the moving version of my WIP progressions. It's still a fun thing to watch tho. You can see my Illustration WIP for a more in-depth view of how I do illustrations.

INSIGNIA Trailer

My final project for college finally uploaded.

I designed it as a children's fantasy-adventure series. Something that would bring the nostalgia of those old classic cartoons from the 90's. I wanted it to be appealing without the use of sex appeal, as opposed to the global culture nowadays that is simply drowned in sensuality. I believe that you don't need to taint your art with sex appeal to make it look good. On the contrary, in my opinion, incorporating sex appeal into your work, in most cases, makes it look cheap and ends up doing more harm than good.

Insignia is meant to teach morals and character to children wrapped in a thrilling adventure in a fantasy world. As the characters progresses through the world of Insignia, I want the watchers to mature along with them (rote learning, subliminal messaging, and brainwashing... but in a positive way), so by the end of the series, I hope that watchers will have developed a better sense of morality.

As oppose to artists who build their reputation from porn and lust-oriented pictures, who contributes to the forming of future rapist and prostitutes, I want to leave something worthwhile in people's hearts. If the world is indeed doomed into a spiral of moral degradation, I hope Insignia may slow down the process.

Hmph!

A rough linetest of Raid that I made before diving into the actual project.

I made it to familiarize myself with the workflow of traditional animation since it has been such a long time since our first 2D assignment.

It was also submitted on the 1st visual examination to convince the lecturers that the student in question is indeed capable of finishing the task set out for them.

My First TV Commercial

During my internship a few months back, three of my classmates and I made a TV commercial for a cellphone product. The commercial was aired in Indonesia, on the Trans7 channel.

Thank you to whoever uploaded this video.

There are a few models that I made that didn't make the cut, due to the client's....indecisiveness -3-
One of them are the previous model, which I think was a pretty cool design.
Another model that didn't make it was the Silicon Case (middle).
We called it the "condom" at the office. ¦D
(I actually spent a lot of time making that condom :'<)

So after spending a lot of time making these,
the client conveniently decided to change the cellphone entirely. (Joy... )
This was the next model.

The second model was still revised from black to white.
Thank goodness it wasn't that hard to do.

So that's how it finally got to the model you saw just now on the commercial, hehe.
Below is a snapshot of one of the work in progress.

Lonely... Wally is Lonely ♫

Nobody gets forgotten in my cast, so I'm bringing an old character back to people's hearts.

I've been wondering how Wally has been doing, since I've haven't had any art blocks lately.
So an image of him(?) crying anime style all alone came to mind.
And what screams 'alone' more than Bobby Vinton's Mister Lonely.

It would be discourteous if I didn't show you the real thing,
so without further adieu, ladies and gentlemen...
Bobby Vinton!

Om nom nom nom ♪

I'm trying out methods of 2D animation to get familiar with the workflow before my thesis project next semester. It's been a year since my last 2D animated PSA, so I wanted to do a small and simple looping animated sequence, just so I can figure out the possible troubleshoots that might occur and the solutions for them before the actual thesis come up.

Quite a lot of speed bumps occured, I must say,
but it was worth the trip C:
