Sh*t just got real!
I still can’t believe I'm actually going with this crazy idea.
…then again, I often question my sanity to begin with.
For those who don’t know, Insignia is this story I’m developing as a hobby of mine.
“Ryu” and the others come from that world.
My project is what my peers would call, “The Suicide Combo”.
So you see, there are 5 options for us students to choose from as the final form of our project:
1. Short story (min. 3 minutes)
2. TV Series (creative strategy + min. 1.5 minute trailer)
3. Documentary
4. E-Learning
5. Public Service Announcement/PSA (2 versions @ 30 seconds long)
Out of these 5 options presented, I chose to make a TV Series, which was the hardest option of all, because the project involves designing a product on a much bigger scale (aside from the trailer itself), which is the entire franchise, starting from the market research, content, multiple background stories, character & environment design, down to how the character’s mannerisms.
So that was the first deadly ingredient…
The second one is the fact that Insignia is an original story, as opposed to basing your story on a particular storybook or a local folklore.
Since I have no credibility what-so-ever in storytelling, this makes every choice and decision I make questionable. Which later leads to me having to do a whole lot of research to back up every choice of action I take. Fortunately I am genuinely interested in this title, and I love doing it, so wth.
The final deadly ingredient is the media that I chose, which is 2D animation. Yep, the old traditional animation. Well, I will be using a tablet, but it still means hand-drawing the frames one by one. So I’ll still have to work my butt off just to be able to finish all this in 4 months time.
And that is why most conversations with classmates who ask about my project end up like this:
Classmate_1: Hi, there! So what are you making?
Me: A TV Series~
Classmate_1: Whoa! owo …………….. What’s the story?
Me: Oh it’s an original story of mine.
Classmate_1: ……whoa! (o_o)
Classmate_2: And he’s making it in 2D!
Classmate_1: You’re making it in 2D?! ..................Whoa! O_O;
Yes, I admit. This is crazy, and I am overly idealistic about this one.
But I refuse to follow the stupid regulations that makes it almost impossible for the students to come up with something original and creative.
Wouldn’t it be awesome if I became the first student to actually went through with an idea like this?
Wouldn’t it be awesome if I could boldly say, “I followed my heart, and succeeded by doing so!”?
Wouldn’t it be awesome if I actually got a good score and get the chance to showcase Insignia at the next art festival at the mall? That would mean real live audience!
It would be like--oh, sorry…. alright, I’m back now ._.
Anyways, I’ll be busy making my thesis for the next few months. Fortunately however, my thesis is about Insignia, so I might be able to submit the early design elements. Isn't this great?
Wish me luck~ ^^/

A Punny Joke
So my mom has been meaning to buy me a wristwatch for quite some time now.
Well technically since I graduated high school.
I dunno why. It's like this little dream of hers.
Yeah... we tend to laugh our socks off at the simplest jokes.
I never realized how lame we actually were until the very moment I uploaded this comic on the internet. Oh well, it's nice to still be able to laugh at lame jokes. It makes life much easier C:

Insignia - PPPP Crossover
A parody between the Insignians and turtles ♪
Boy, it feels like forever since I last posted something new here. I kinda miss this place...
Anyway this comic is based on the turtles' real life habits.
When you walk up to the pond and greet them verbally,
then they would sometimes turn their heads toward you,
look at you for a few seconds,
and then go back to whatever is is they were doing, like plodding pass you, or basking in the sun.
It's really unnerving sometimes, but I guess that's just how turtles do things. ¦D

Way, Waaaaaay On the Inside
Another random moment drawn into a comic.
Even though Ryu doesn't like Zee in general, they've actually gone through a lot together.
The background of this strip actually connects the interior of these two strips :D

Dual and Xeon

In the chronicles of Dual and Xeon, one of the most striking highlights you'll notice between them is the bond they share. Even though I haven't written all of them, I wanted to at least show the viewers how close they are. Which is why I chose a moment where they don't speak to each other directly, because that's when actions start to do the talking.
This is definitely the first time I drew a comic strip with this level of detail. I sure learned a lot about hair and fur.

Sorry, I just had to make this. It's just so much fun.
Finding the right snapshots was a bit tricky though.
Did you notice some anomaly?
Here are the actual snapshots I got from Google.

Sneak Peek
Hey, guess what? Exams are over! Huzzah!
Now all I have to do is make a CV, a demo-reel, and find a place for an internship.
Don't worry, I'll still work on comics in-between. Never fear C:

Men's Needs
Actually, I feel rather guilty having to interrupt Piko from his daily pay per view. It's like I'm obstructing the course of nature here. What else could I do? Piko's mating "ritual" is way to rough and the girls are better off without a male biting their heads off all the time.

Tetsu's Laboratory
There were several concepts in Tetsu's laboratory. I tweaked around with the architecture during lectures. I was certain that I had to put a mini observatory somewhere (since Astronomy is one of the professor's field of expertise), and I remember it had a cylindrical room, so I played with those 2 elements. Here are some of the previous designs:
Meh. Too simple...
Mmmnaah, too mansion-y...
Hmm, I think that'll do~
I had some trouble balancing between house and lab since this is also where Tetsu lives, but I finally found the design I was happy with.
Don't be fooled by its outer appearance. It's actually pretty messy in there.

Nip Tuck Suck
It baffles me to know that in some parts of the world, cosmetic surgery is considered a TREND. To think that there’s a whole bunch of people who think it’s hip to be dissatisfied with the looks they're born with.
Don’t worry, I don’t hate people who had cosmetic surgery.
It’s just that we can’t be friends, that’s all ♫

The Warlock's Warning
"Consider yourself warned."
One series, three styles. Wow! I didn't know I was so inconsistent.
On the third strip, I changed the way I do the text balloons and also used a different layering method. I also put a bit more effort in drawing out the environment since the setting in the second one was sooo poor.
...
Why did I drew something that's so hard to understand? 0_o

A Bad Omen
An unexpected encounter from the 6th Insignian, Sir Sieg Concord.
Probably the only Insignian who remains in his human form and probably the only one with his last name revealed. (I had to. He doesn't like people calling him by his first name). Although, just like the other Insignians, I'd never reveal their true names (for safety reasons, obviously).
With Sir Concord's appearance, I guess things will get pretty serious from now on.... or at least from time to time. Though I do hope he doesn't... dissolve in often.
The time to shed Insignia's outer skin came sooner than I thought...

Finally, the last page of the series! (thank God)
Wondering why it took so long? I’ll be blunt. I was starting to get bored.
But despite all that, I hate half-assed people who don’t finish what they’ve started. Besides, I did say I’ll explain it in my next comic. So there you have it. The Vacation mini-comic series, finito!

My 20th Birthday
Today is my 20th birthday and these are the birthday cards I got. The yellow one on the right is from my mom, then left to it is from my aunt and cousin, and then the blue one is from a relative from Holland (it says: Van Harte Gefeliciteerd, which means: A heartfull congratulations. Awww). The one at the bottom is from my beloved grandparents C:
We had a bit of an adventure today. This morning, Mocha, my aunt and cousin's dog (who lives next door), ran loose when their front gate accidentally broke open. They searched but Mocha was nowhere to be found. After the whole family finished lunch, we divided into three groups and spread out into the neighborhood in search of the dog. We finally found Mocha sitting sweetly in an empty lot. After bringing her safely back home, we blew the candle on the cake (Happy Ending!). Boy, that cake sure taste good after that agonizing search, ha ha ha. It turned out to be quite an adventurous birthday, which is of course, a present all on it's own.
Oh, almost forgot. The comic I made for this year...
