INSIGNIA Teaser - Behind The Scenes

Oh hey, I forgot that I had some materials on YouTube that I haven't shared yet, so here they are.
I've uploaded the step-by-step Animation Process and the Animatics to the animated trailer I made for my college final project.
But first, here's another look of the finished version.

INSIGNIA Teaser Trailer
It's fun to watch this side-by-side with the Animatics.

Animatics
The images I used in the Animatics here were the final draft taken from the storyboard. As you can see there are quite a number changes that I made, from backgrounds to camera angles. There are some really cool shots, but they didn't made the cut because some of them interrupted the flow of the trailer. Regardless, I think they were some epic shots.

Animation Process
Some of you may already be familiar with how I do illustrations. This is more or less the moving version of my WIP progressions. It's still a fun thing to watch tho. You can see my Illustration WIP for a more in-depth view of how I do illustrations.

Aras' Mural

Shot_20 background of the Insignia Trailer.

I, John, your brother and companion in the suffering and kingdom and patient endurance that are ours in Jesus, was on the island of Patmos because of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus. 10 On the Lord’s Day I was in the Spirit, and I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet, 11 which said: “Write on a scroll what you see and send it to the seven churches: to Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia and Laodicea.”

12 I turned around to see the voice that was speaking to me. And when I turned I saw seven golden lampstands, 13 and among the lampstands was someone like a son of man,[a] dressed in a robe reaching down to his feet and with a golden sash around his chest. 14 The hair on his head was white like wool, as white as snow, and his eyes were like blazing fire. 15 His feet were like bronze glowing in a furnace, and his voice was like the sound of rushing waters. 16 In his right hand he held seven stars, and coming out of his mouth was a sharp, double-edged sword. His face was like the sun shining in all its brilliance.

17 When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. Then he placed his right hand on me and said: “Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last. 18 I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades.

19 “Write, therefore, what you have seen, what is now and what will take place later.

INSIGNIA Trailer

My final project for college finally uploaded.

I designed it as a children's fantasy-adventure series. Something that would bring the nostalgia of those old classic cartoons from the 90's. I wanted it to be appealing without the use of sex appeal, as opposed to the global culture nowadays that is simply drowned in sensuality. I believe that you don't need to taint your art with sex appeal to make it look good. On the contrary, in my opinion, incorporating sex appeal into your work, in most cases, makes it look cheap and ends up doing more harm than good.

Insignia is meant to teach morals and character to children wrapped in a thrilling adventure in a fantasy world. As the characters progresses through the world of Insignia, I want the watchers to mature along with them (rote learning, subliminal messaging, and brainwashing... but in a positive way), so by the end of the series, I hope that watchers will have developed a better sense of morality.

As oppose to artists who build their reputation from porn and lust-oriented pictures, who contributes to the forming of future rapist and prostitutes, I want to leave something worthwhile in people's hearts. If the world is indeed doomed into a spiral of moral degradation, I hope Insignia may slow down the process.

OST Cover

Another display material for my thesis presentation.
You can guess by now that I'm just uploading stuff from my thesis presentation materials until I start drawing again...

p.s: Sorry if this was double posted. Blogger is derping on me.

DVD Cover

Insignia: Season 1 - DVD Cover

A mock DVD cover for one of the display items for my thesis presentation,
an animated trailer and the creative design plans for Insignia: The Animated Series.

Because I was short on time, I took a couple of previous works done and picked 3 snapshots from the finished trailer. Then I just slapped them altogether on my trusty texturized background and decorated it with some common logos to make it slightly more realistic. The description was fun to write.

It turned out decent for a quick fix.

Again the one I sent to press had my real name on it, though the "Koru Xypress" in the synopsis stayed. None of my classmates seemed to notice it though. Not many bothered to read English, I think.

Display Boards 1-3

This is what the display boards looks like.
I wonder why I was so worked up with this composition...

Anyway, the one I sent to print was in Indonesian and had my real name on it.
I censored the storyboard panel for the time being to avoid spoilers.
I'll un-censor it once the actual trailer is allowed to be uploaded.

Individual character sheets are available to view under the label Character Sheets.

Hmph!

A rough linetest of Raid that I made before diving into the actual project.

I made it to familiarize myself with the workflow of traditional animation since it has been such a long time since our first 2D assignment.

It was also submitted on the 1st visual examination to convince the lecturers that the student in question is indeed capable of finishing the task set out for them.

Character Comparison

A panel from my display board that I forgot to upload.
After lining them up, I pretty much like how their colors turned out.

Character Profile - Maya

One of the girl's identity finally revealed. Ta-daah! This is Maya.
Gosh, I wanted to gave her a better bow soooo badly.
Alas, her weapon did suck at the beginning... (no seriously, it really did)

Well... that, and the fact that I must refrain myself from adding too much detail.
So I simplified the initial design... and then some :P

Gestures & Expressions - Raid

Seems familiar?

Ha ha ha, yep! As you might've guessed, a lot of these drawings were redrawn from my old works.
The boxing-looking stance from the gesture panel is based off my old work, Prior Adventum,
and most of the expressions were humanized from one of my previous expression sheet.

Judging by the looks of it, I think some of you might already have a good idea of who Raid might be C:

Model Sheet - Raid

Designing characters for an animated TV series is a lot of fun, but there's a catch.
You can't add too many details in it!

I had to refrain myself from adding a lot of details on this one.
I'm a bit used to adding little details here and there so I'm a bit out of my comfort zone here.
But then again, that rule makes perfect sense since every line you add to the design,
will have to be redrawn 12 to 13 times per second later during the animation process.

I've started animating the trailer for this project and...Man!
A single line means a lot! O_o

Concept Sketch - Raid

One of the character sheets for my final project, Insignia.

Because the major characters of Insignia are human by appearance,
and since FurAffinity is a website for anthropomorphic characters,
I'll post the materials here and on my DeviantArt account.
